I was brought into Bee Radio in Lancashire to voice some radio commercials for local businesses. The crew at the station were very welcoming. In the booth I was challenged with producing a voice in the local regional accent and found it challenging at first!
However, it's at times like this when it's important to reach out and ask for assistance, the talent director was happy to provide examples of the Lancashire accent and after some practice I was able to produce a good mix of RP English and a small slice of the local accent, which the broadcast team were very happy with.
It was a joy to hear the adverts on the local station occasionally as I passed through the area, and the local listeners never raised the alarm about the suspicion of an 'outsider' approximating their accent!
